Antiquus Astrology
The light of a Planet is the Life of the Planet. The Sun is the bringer of life and therefore its reflection off the Planets brings life to each of the Planets and therefore influence unto us. The reflection of this light is termed by the Ancients as Rays, or emanations of the Planets. Sometimes through the Accidental placement of the Planets they have the ability to move the virtues of this light to another Planet without being in contact with it, such as a bridge which allows people to get from one side (or Planet) to another. This Accidental placement can also be more malevolent and therefore bombard negativity onto a weaker Planet. These, as well as many more are the Accidents of Light, or the Accidents of the Rays of the Planets, will be discussed here.

Frustration & Prohibition

Frustration of light occurs when a swifter Planet makes an application to one that is slower of weightier but before a perfect conjunction can be commenced, a more swift Planet applies to the conjunction as well. This aspect is considered the frustration of light because the third Planet gets frustrated by the power of the other two in conjunction when he wants to make an aspect with one Planet. For example, if Saturn is in 5°, Jupiter is applying from 4° but before it can reach this conjunction, Mars applies to Jupiter from 1° and therefore is Frustrated.

There is also a similar occurrence that is called Prohibition. This happens when a swifter Planet surpasses a slower Planet in conjunction or aspect which the slower Planet was looking to achieve. For example, if Jupiter is 10°, Saturn being 14° and Mars after surpassing Jupiter at 10° conjuncts with Saturn before Jupiter can gain the perfect conjunction with Saturn and therefore Jupiter is Prohibited by Mars. This is similar to frustration but in this case the swifter Planet is placed between the two slower and therefore usurps the Conjunction from the other slower Planet.

Translation

Translation of Light or the Translation of Virtue or Nature is the term used to describe a Planet which separates from a heavier Planet then applies unto another Planet bringing with it the virtue or light of the first Planet that it is separating from and applying that virtue onto the Planet it is applying unto. The swifter Planet (that is separating) acts as a bridge for the virtue of Planet that it separates from. For example, Jupiter is at 10°, Mars is separating from Jupiter at 12° and applies to Saturn who is placed at 15°, thus Mars is bringing the virtue or light of Jupiter unto the influence of Saturn, or Translating it. This can happen between Conjunction or Aspect.

Collection

The Collection of Light is not as popular as the other configurations that occur. The Collection of Light happens when two Planets cast their Rays with a good Aspect to a third Planet that is heavier then they are. This is further strengthened when these Planets are in reception of the third in some form. As for example, if Mars and the Sun Trine Saturn. Saturn being more weighty than the other two Planets therefore collects their light and virtue with his own. If Sol or Mars happen to be in a sign that is in the House, Exaltation or Triplicity of Saturn, it strengthens the bond created (a Trine always indicates reception by way of Triplicity).

Besiegement

Besiegement is a strong debility to any Planet and is ranked a 5 by the Traditional authors which is similar to that of Combustion & Retrogradation. Besiegement occurs when one Planet is between the bodies of Saturn and Mars. Only Saturn and Mars have the ability to besiege a Planet. For example, if Saturn is 10°, Mars 15° and Jupiter 13°, Jupiter is being besieged by Saturn and Mars. However the traditional authors do not state if this is configuration is only limited to conjunction or whether a Planet may be besieged through aspect. As for example, Saturn 1° Libra, Mars 1° Aries with Jupiter in 1° Capricorn (or Cancer). Use your discretion with the aspect, however it is more powerful through conjunction.
