Antiquus Astrology
The 9th House has signification over long distance travel, specifically that by sea and as mentioned in the 3rd House, rules over journeys longer than 2 days; specifically journeys out of ones own country. In order to determine whether the Native will have any success abroad it is best to see if the Lord of this House be well dignified and aspected. If this is found to be true, the Native shall thrive in long distance travels and the places in which he visits. To determine the length of his stay abroad it is best to look and see if the sign in which the cusp of the 9th be on is fixed, moveable or common and also to note the Sign of the Lord of that House. If it be fixed the Native spends quite some time abroad, specifically many years. If it be found in moveable or common it should be judged that the time is indifferent or short. If there are Planets found in this House and they are well dignified and aspected judge that the Native shall encounter benevolent people of the temperament of the Planets found in that location or he will travel for such a purpose to meet those people.

Along with long distance traveling the 9th House has signification over pilgrimages being also the House of Religion. To determine whether these holy travels will be beneficial to the Native judge the above significators. Those who have Jupiter placed strongly in the 9th or the Lord thereof often seek people of religion from a distance, possibly a guru or spiritual teacher or holy man. If all the significators are promising judge that the Native shall find what they seek and have good interaction with not only the people of that Country but those they went to seek.

Being the House of Religion, it is also the House of fear because all should fear God to have reverence and be under his feet. All higher clergymen are considered in this House as well, specifically those of a devote nature whose lives are fused with the worship of God, such as Popes, Cardinals, Arch Bishops and those of respect. Certain Planets are said to represent certain religions, such as being Saturn is dedicated to Judaism, the Sun to Christianity and Mars to Islam. If either of these Planets are found to be Lord of the 9th they show the religion that the Native will have most interest in studying. It should also be noted that if Saturn or Mars are unfortunate in the 9th House it creates Atheists, and Jupiter retrograde (having dominion in Religion) also shows the delay of religious affiliation with regards to the Natives beliefs.

This House also has signification over the studies of the Native, specifically studies which are obtained and instructed in institutions. The Lord of the 9th House well dignified and aspected shows that the Native will delight in studies in Universities or other learning institutions. It also shows that the Native will most definately seek to attend such institutions. If the contrary appears, judge the contrary to this. These rules apply to all the significators of this House and other Houses as well. If the Lord of any Cusp is well dignities and fortified the Native will much joy in the benefits that it holds. This is also the House of dreams and as aforementioned, the Lord benevolent shows that the dreams to be true and will come to pass. By dreams, many of the traditional authors were making reference to Divine inspirations and revelations brought on by the Will of God and not necessarily simple night dreams (which are ruled by the 3rd House). Finally it has signification over scholars, physicians, lawyers, and Astrologers, and students in general.

General

The House is Cadent but unlike the others, it is not as malevolent as the other Cadent Houses because it has a Trine aspect to the Ascendant and above the earth and therefore has signification over goodness. It is called by the Latins Metus, a Metu, for fear or doubt. This fear comes from the idea of falling away from God and holiness and therefore into some place malevolent. Its cosignificators are Sagittarius and Jupiter and it represents the thighs and hips of man. The color of this House is green or white.

Mundane

The 9th House illustrates the faith of the common people. Whether their faith will be strong and if they will exhibit their goodness is expressed by the state of the Lord of the 9th House. This House also shows if the people of the country will undertake long distance travel. If the significators be found in fixed Signs, they will stay in their place of origin and thus interpret the rest of the qualities. It also shows whether the people will undertake certain studies in Sciences.
