Antiquus Astrology
The 10th House or Medium Cœli is the highest peak in Heaven and therefore all the greatness of the world is ascribed to it. The 4th House is the House of the Earth and therefore the 10th House is the House of Heaven being opposite to it. This House has signification over the honor and preferment of the Native, the Mother, trade or profession that the Native will undertake. If the Lord of the 10th House be well dignified and fortified it shows that the Native will rise up from his base condition. Some authors disagree whether this gives the ability to rise beyond their births condition or only to the peak of the condition in which they were born. Since Western Civilization has given even common people the opportunity to rise beyond their base conditions it seems more true that the first of these is more accurate; that one can rise as high as their Planets allow them, even if its outside of the condition they were born under. However I agree if times were the same from the point of view of the Traditional author, it would be quite difficult and possibly even dangerous or blasphemous to state and achieve that one who was not of pedigree could rise to that degree without being bred into the hierarchy and achieve success.

Profession or Trade of the Native is found out by the Lord of the 10th and any Planets placed therein. Each Planet has quite a large list of significators of jobs attached to it which can be found on the Planets section of Chapter 2. If the Lord of the 10th House be well dignified and fortified the jobs are those of quality and prestige, if debilitated and ill aspected, they are the base jobs (however still relating to that specific Planet). With the Lord of Saturn we see that if Saturn be well dignified the Native may take on professions of one who runs a Jail or a Husbandman. If Saturn is ill dignified, the profession could be of a beggar or ditch digger. The dignity or debility of the Lord of the 10th also shows the ability in which one accomplishes the trade or profession that is stated by the Planet. If ill dignified, the Native will not be good at any job that is within the field of the Planetary rulership.

It should also be noted, any aspects made to the Lord of the tenth should be taken as helpers or hinderers to the profession of the Native. If the Aspects are benevolent, judge the people of the quality of the Planet (for instance Jupiter would rule over religious people) to be of use to the Native in achieving his trade or profession. If there are malevolent aspects, judge the contrary and people of that condition will hinder the progress of the Native in that specific career. To finalize this, look at what House that these helping or hindering Planets come from. If from the 3rd there is a square to the Lord of the 10th, judge that the Brethren of the Native shall hold the Native back from achieving his trade or career and that only after a lot of difficulties will he overcome the adversity.

This House also has rulership over the Mother, as the 4th House over the Father, along with her state and condition. The mother should be aptly described by the Lord of the 10th House as well as its cusp which would be her Ascendant. The 10th House is also 7th from the 4th which makes the Mother and Father bound by marriage. The state of the parents marriage can be determined through the analysis of both Lords of the 4th and 10th Houses.

General

The 10th House is of  feminine quality and also called by the Latins Cor Cœli or the Heart of Heaven and Domus & Cuspis Regalis. Its cosignificators are Capricorn and Mars and rules of the Man the knees and hams. It is of the colors red and white.

Mundane

The 10th House has signification over the ruler of any Country and the system of government used. The state of the ruler is determined by the Dignity or Debility of the Lord of the 10th. If a leader is corrupt or a tyrant, the Lord of the 10th House will show this.
