The 11th House has had many significations associated by Modern authors with the misinterpretation of the Traditional authors archaic terminology. It is often generally associated with Friends, however it must be noted that every succedant Angle has signification of friends of the Native. The Angle that it follows usually denotes the types of friendships that follow. For the 2nd House shows friends or assistants which are actually the significations of true friendship of the Native because they stand beside the Ascendant and support it. They also rule friendships that involve the moveable goods of the Native and somehow add (or subtract from with debilities) to his life. The 5th House shows friends of the Father or his associates. The 8th House shows friends of associates and allies of either the spouse or public enemies of the Native. Thus the 11th friends of the Native with regards to his trade or profession or people who would aid the Native in his profession. Therefore the most accurate signification of close friends comes from the 2nd unless of course it is specific to the trade or profession and then the 11th House should be chosen. The main purpose to the 11th House being called the House of general friendship is simply because it is Sextile unto the Ascendant. The 3rd House is also Sextile which is a better aspect because it follows the progression of the Signs, than that to the 11th House. However, since the Sextile happens above the earth it is therefore usually favored. The astrologer may choose any succedant House he deems most fit with regards to the type of friendship.

This House can also illustrate the quality of the friendships between the Native and his friends. If the Lord of the 11th be ill dignified it should be judged that the quality of friends and friendship will be the same as Lord whether he be dignified or debilitated. If the Lord of the 11th House be found in the 12th House it can illustrate that the friends of the Native are also his secret enemies. If found in the 3rd House or the Lord of the 3rd found in the 11th it can show the brethren of the Native in friendship with the Native, especially if the Lord of the Ascendant and Lord of the 3rd are in mutual reception or aspect to one another. The same applies to signification of the mother and father.

Another mistranslation of Traditional authors comes in the signification that this House represents "society at large". This is due to some traditional authors using the term "society" as being one of the significations of the 11th House without any large explanation (being that those of their time would understand its proper meaning). However it should be noted that the archaic definition of society often meant a small group of people who knew each other, similar to that representation of the community or "friendly association with others". It did not have any signification of a large grouping of people as we would think of a society today, such as the American society. This is the common association of the Sextile Aspect from the Ascendant as we find the same significations used in the 3rd House which is also Sextile from the Ascendant. Society in general is clearly represented by the 1st House (which is the rulership in Mundane Astrology).

Hopes and wishes are also signified by this House. The quality and probability of the achievement of these Wishes and Goals is determined by the strength of the Lord of the 11th House. If strong, the Native can achieve his desires easily and with little difficulty and if they have benevolent aspects to them, the Native will be aided in achieving these by the people signified by the specific Planets that make this Aspect. Judge the contrary if the Lord be infortunate and ill aspected. The state of its Lord and the House show the confidence of the individual as well, whether it be high or low and depressive.

General

The 11th House is a masculine House and succedant from the Angle of Heaven and therefore called in Latin Bonus genius or the good Dæmon, Angel, or Spirit. It rules over the legs and ankles of men and of the color of yellow. Its cosignificators are Aquarius and the Sun. Its color is yellow.

Mundane

The 11th House has dominion over the assistants of the King or Ruler of the country, specially those dealing in money but also of allies. It signifies the Exchequer, the Kings Council, and Soldiers of the King or Ruler.
