Antiquus Astrology
Many significations of the sixth House have a lot of difficulty applying to our current era. However the first and chief of these which applies through any era of humanity is over disease and sickness. This House having no aspect to the Ascendant, nor close to it, is seen as evil to the Native and thus given the rulership of the most evil affliction to man, disease. In order to determine the strength or weakness, health or sickness of the individual the Lord of this House needs to be considered being the chief agent in which can influence the House significations. If this Lord is afflicted either by placement or accidental, it denotes that the Native will have troublesome health without the help of the benevolents. If it is well placed and aspected, or if it is a benevolent itself and well dignified, it illustrates health to the Native. The types of disease which afflict will commonly be told by the 6th House cusp as well as the Lord and the sign in which it is in. With a weak Lord placed in a fiery sign as with the cusp of the 6th, shows hot diseases, specifically fevers, boils, and their specific location is determined by the location of the Lord of this House. This House also signifies whether diseases are terminal or can be cured.

The secondary signification of this House is concerning servants and their state (whether thievish or honest). As told by the Traditional authors, this House previously represented slaves but when slavery was looked down upon by many societies the significations changed to servants. The Lord of this House, along with its placement, can determine where servants will take part in ones life. For if the Lord of the 6th is found in the first, it can show that the servant of the individual is a personal servant, one who does personal tasks for the Native, if in the 5th it can illustrate nannies or other childcare workers. In the 10th, servants or people under the Native in his trade or profession and so forth. This House also shows the state of the servant, whether they be ill and ireful towards the Native, whether they steal and if they have accomplices stealing, also if the Native can have trust in any servant.

Finally, the last main significator is over all kinds of small cattle. There is some modern confusion concerning whether this House signifies pets due to its small animal association, however many traditional authors have stated that the reason this House has rulership over small cattle and servants is because it has no direct contact with the Ascendant, something which a shepherd doesn't have with his flock but a pet certainly does with its owner. Whether or not this placement should be used to determine pets is up to the astrologer but personally, this House should be kept for small cattle and pets should not be generalized into that area. Another consideration for pets is with the association of the 5th House, being the House of vain pleasures, which is the main reason we purchase pets because they have no function other then to give us pleasure and company, where as small cattle and servants serve a function of servitude, pets don't. Our love for our pets can also be considered for the 5th because of the trine aspect that is made with the Ascendant which represents perfect love. However, it is also argued that since we purchase these animals and they are in the master-slave relationship they can be considered under the 6th House. For whatever case you choose to accept, use your discretion and a correct judgment will follow.

Some minor significators of this House are Uncles and Aunts (being the third House from the 4th), the financial affairs of the Natives issues and from the Lord of the sixth we can see the inclination of the Native to interact with his extended family and their relationship whether strong or weak (showed by aspects between the Lord of the Ascendant and Lord of the 6th House). It is also possible to see how our children will be financially in the future.

General

The 6th House is a feminine House and Cadent which makes it unfortunate because it is far from an Angle. It is called by the Latins Mala fortuna because of its placement and rules over the belly of man. The cosingifators of this House are Virgo and Mercury. It is of the color black.

Mundane

The 6th House illustrates the health or sickness of the Country, whether the people will be generally in good health or sickness and what types of sicknesses will most prevail against the people. Whether there will be death from any sickness (Lord of the 6th in the 8th evilly placed) in the Country. It also shows the state of employment of the Country. If benevolent, well placed and assisted, it shows that the state of employment will be strong in the state and people will generally enjoy their jobs or work.
