Antiquus Astrology
These Aphorisms taken from various manuscripts relate to the subject of death and the method in which they are shown in all Nativities. In order to begin it is important to find the Significator of Death. The first place to look for the Significator of Death is if there are any Planets inhabiting the 8th House. If there are, that is the Significator of death. If there are no Planets in the 8th House, look to the 7th House and if there is a Planet there, he shall be the significator. If there is no Planet within the 7th then follow the list of alternative Significators below.

Of the Ascendant and his Lord.
Of the 8th House and his Lord.
Of the Part of Death and his Lord.
Of the eighth Sign, from the place of the Sun and of his Lord.
Of the eighth Sign, from the Moon and of his Lord.
Of the place of the first Lord of the Triplicity of the fourth angle.
Of the place of the Planet which hath dignity of term, to the degree of the seventh House.

The Planet which is found in all of these places, or in most of them shall be most dignified and the principle Significator or Death.

  1. If Saturn be in the eighth or seventh House or else more dignified in the above said places of the figure, he is the principle significator of death. If he be well disposed, it is witnesses that the same party shall die of the edema of some great stopping of the liver and of the spleen, of a quartern fever (72 hours in length associated with malaria), of the excessive flow of the belly, of tuberculosis, or of some burning fever, and of apostemes of the ears, & etc. If it be greatly unfortunate and together with the Lord of the Ascendant and the Luminaries temporally be evil disposed, it denotes violent death by Apostemes, paralysis, falling down of humors, suffocations, over flown with water. When it is in the watery Signs some fall or ruin. When it is in the earthly Signs by great blows or for to be hanged when it is in the airy Signs.

  1. If Jupiter be the significator of death, it states that he shall die of a Pleurisy, of a tonsillar abscesses, of some hot apostemes of the liver or of the lungs, or of other sicknesses coming of wind or of blood if he be fortunate. For when he is evil disposed and unfortunate, it makes him to die by the hand of justice, by the commandment of the Prince, by sentence of a Judge or of the Marshal, by overflowing in waters, to be whipped and scourged by long imprisonment.

  1. If it be Mars well disposed, by continual certain fevers, by overflowing of blood, by Carbuncles and pestilence, by apostemes coming of Choleric matters, burnings by too much using of women. If Mars be very evil disposed, it makes him to be hanged and strangled, smothered or otherwise killed in his bed or on his horse. When he is an airy Sign or partaker, within the water, when he is a watery Sign, of fallen from on high, of some ruinous murderer when he is terrestrial or burnt, when he is a fiery Sign, principally if the Lord of the Ascendant and the Luminaries temporally be unfortunate by Mars.

  1. If it be the Sun well disposed, he shall die of some hot disease. If it be unfortunate, by the commandment of the Prince, by sentence of the Judge, or he shall die among a great company of men, subject to death,  in prison, in a dungeon or in some other stinking and filthy place.

  1. If it be Venus well disposed, he shall die of too much eating fruits, with too much continuing his voluptuousness, of some fistula or aposteme. If she be unfortunate, it denotes death by venom, principally when she is burnt or joined to Saturn, or of too much burning affection of love or of great griefs of venereal diseases.

  1. If it be Mercury fortunate, it makes him die by sadness, by great apprehensions, by the yellow jaundice, by tuberculosis, by the burning fever, or by too much watching. If he be greatly unfortunate, it signifieth that he shall die by madness, epilepsy, by violent coughs, with breaking in sunder the veins, by foolish melancholy, by jealousy.

  1. If it be that the Moon is well disposed, with too much eating moist meats, by drinking water or by too much continuing his pleasure. If he be unfortunate, you must consider the nature of him which is unfortunate. For it be Mars, he shall die by fire, by hurt or by abortisment if it be a woman. If it be by Saturn, by ruins, falls, pestilence, and like accidents.

  1. Before concluding of what death the party shall die, it is important to consider the disposition of the Lord of the Ascendant and of the Luminaries temporal. For if they be well disposed, the death shall not be violent even though the principle significator be greatly unfortunate. If the said significator be unfortunate, together with the Luminaries temporal or the Lord of the Ascendant evil disposed, it should be said certainly that the death shall be violent. If Jupiter or Venus do not intermingle their favorable beams, then the said person shall fall in great danger of a violent death and from the which he shall always escape miraculously.

  1. If one of the ill fortunes be in the Sign of Cancer and the other in the Sign of the Lion, the death shall be violent. Likewise it is violent if any of the ill fortunes be in the Sign of the Lion and the Luminaries temporal or the Lord of the Ascendant be unfortunate with one of the ill fortunes be in the first House and the other in the seventh or fourth or one of them in the tenth and the other in the fourth.

  1. The Sun, the Moon or the Lord of the Ascendant joined with Mars, having its placement in one fixed star, which the Astrologers call the Head of Medusa, or otherwise the Head of the Devil, makes the native die by the hand of the executioner to lose his head.

  2. When the Sun, the Moon, Saturn and Mars occupy the four angles of Heaven or at least 3, the person shall die a horrible death by way of losing his head, be cut in four quarters or be drawn with four horses. This happens principally if in the said angles be the Signs of Gemini, Pisces and Aquarius.

  1. Mars in the ninth or eighth in the Sign of Aquarius or Gemini, opposite to the Moon or the Lord of the Ascendant, without good aspect of fortunes, causes the native perish by sulpher or fire from Heaven.

  1. Saturn in the twelfth, sixth, eighth, or fourth House unfortunate, the Lord of the said Houses will make him die in prison or else a location where he is in great pain and travail. This occurrence specifically happens when the Luminaries temporal or the Lord of the Ascendant be unfortunate in any of the said Houses.

  1. The Tail of the Dragon being joined to the significators of death, denotes poisons, venoms and violent medicines or ill applied as well as excessive overflowing of the belly.

  1. Mars within the fourth, eighth, twelfth or sixth unfortunate with their Lords and the Luminaries temporal or of the Lord of the Ascendant, describe a violent death by the shedding of blood or otherwise.

  1. The significators of death within the ninth or third House, signify that the person shall die by the way or in a strange country except if they be in their own proper Houses or exaltations for then he shall die in his house and bring his evil from the highways. The said significators in their proper Houses or exaltations, make him die in his house, if they be peregrines, they make him die out of his House.

  1. The Moon joined to a fixed star, named the Claire of the Balance Meridional, denotes violent death. That does also when she is joined with other stars that have the nature of the Luminaries.

  1. Mars in the eighth House with the Head of the Dragon will make him to be hung and strangled.

  1. Many Planets within the seventh House will make him die of some strange and terrible kind of death.

  1. Saturn, Mars and the Head of the Dragon in the first; Venus and Mercury with the Tail in the seventh, make the body separate into a thousand pieces.

  1. If the principle significator be burnt in his own proper House or exaltation, without being otherwise unfortunate, it makes the native die suddenly of some feebleness or other sudden and secret accident, without other violence. The fortunes well disposed in the eighth House, preserve him always from a violent death.
