There are quite a few significations of the family found in the chart. In fact, it is possible to find every single member of the family in a Nativity. The Traditional astrologers had mapped these significations out quite ingeniously but over time they had been forgotten and pushed aside. More and more people would rather hear about themselves then their families and the state of their loved ones. In this section is contained a brief overview of the places to look and the significations of the members of a natives family. This can also be used for Horary Astrology as the Querent is usually represented by the 1st House, as in a natal chart.
The significations of the father and mother in a chart are sometimes quite confusing, especially for students of Astrology. Many sources say many different things regarding this but I have found many traditional authors to be in agreement as to the significators of the father and mother. In order to find these the native must first know if their birth is diurnal or nocturnal (born in the day or night). This makes a fairly significant impact on the Planets which signify the father and mother in a chart and is widely over looked.
For diurnal charts, the father is represented by the Sun naturally and the mother by Venus. In a nocturnal chart the father is represented by Saturn and the mother by the Moon. However if Saturn be in the first or fourth House, this Planet should always represent the father. It should also be noted that if the Sun is in the first House of the Nativity of the child, the figure of the Nativity of the father and of the son shall be one.
As for the Houses which signify the father and mother, these are very clear as most Modern and Traditional sources are in agreement with this. The 4th House is the main significator of the father and the 10th House, the mother. The father's 1st House is contained in the native's 4th, meaning that his 7th House, the one being of marriage, which is the native's 10th House and proving that the mothers House is therefore the natives 10th House.
The grandparents Houses are found the similar way. Most of the time the father's parents were the choice for principle grandparents (due to the fact of heritage which came from the fathers side) and therefore, the 7th House of the native represented the grandparents (which is four Houses away from the natives father' House or the House of the fathers parents). And of course, we see that the 8th House, (which would be the second House of the Grandparents) represents wills, deeds and inheritances. As for Planets ruling the grandparents, it would be confident to state that Saturn would represent them, or at the very least the grandfather due to its nature and significance.
The brethren and sisters are commonly ruled by the third House, however their Planets are very rarely spoken of. Mars is the general ruler of the brethren and the Moon is dedicated to sisters. Half brothers or sisters are ruled three Houses from the House of the parent they are from. For example, half brothers of the fathers side are found three Houses from the fourth House, making them ruled by the sixth House. As with the mothers half children, the twelfth.
The uncle and aunt on the fathers side would be represented by the 6th House which is three Houses from the fathers 1st House (the natives 4th). The cousins are often traditionally mentioned to be the natives 3rd House however following the House Revolution method, that would place them five Houses away from the 6th House (being the House of uncles and aunts on the fathers side) or the natives 10th House.
